Description

In this course, you will learn how to quickly and easily create roads and similar structures in 3D-Dig. The course will begin by showing you how to set up the road horizontal alignment and cross-sectional parameters. After you have done this, you will continue the road design process by setting up the road’s vertical alignment. You will then excavate the road and learn how to edit the horizontal alignment to achieve a reasonable cut/fill balance in your 3D-Dig road. Finally, the course shows you that you can apply this functionality to create associated earthworks structures such as access ramps, dams, and drainage channels.

Objectives

The purpose of this course is to help you get started with using the 3D-Dig functionality, which serves for the creation of roads and associated structures. Working through the lessons of this course, you will:

  • See the advantages and value of the 3D-Dig method of creating roads.
  • Make acquaintance with road design basics.
  • Work with cut-fill balance.
  • Learn the concept of horizontal alignment and vertical alignment, applied to improve the Cut/Fill balance.

  • This quick introductory module provides a brief, high-level overview of course content. You will meet your instructor and have the option to download a course data package as well as helpful course resources.

  • This module introduces the basics of the 3D-Dig roads functionality.

    • Get started with some theoretical basis of the road creation method in the 3D-Dig.
    • Execute the initial set-up for road creation, including horizontal alignment.
    • Make acquaintance with the concept of vertical alignment.
    • Perform the essential excavation to create the road.
    • Learn how to work with cut-fill balance for the creation of roads and other earthworks.

  • The final module is an exam where you can test your knowledge of the concepts introduced in this course. Pass this exam with a 70% or better to receive your completion certificate.
