Description and Content of 3D-Dig Excavation

Description

In this course, you will learn how to set up and execute free mode excavations in 3D-Dig. You will also learn how to perform the box cut excavation. First, you will get started with some 3D-Dig excavation basics, and then make acquaintance with the concepts of limit, selective, and multiple excavations.

Objectives

The purpose of this course is to help you get started with using excavation functionality in 3D-Dig. Working through the lessons of this course, you will:

  • See the advantages and value of the 3D-Dig method of excavation.
  • Learn about free mode excavations in 3D-Dig.
  • Make acquaintance with the concepts of inner and outer excavation polygons.
  • See how to use excavation templates, and learn how to excavate to a surface and how to use excavation limit surfaces.
  • Execute the excavation of a box cut.

Content

  • This quick introductory module provides a brief, high-level overview of course content. You will meet your instructor and have the option to download a course data package as well as helpful course resources.

  • This module introduces the 3D-Dig Excavation method.

    • Get started with some excavation basics.
    • See the concepts of inner and outer excavation polygons.
    • Use the excavation templates and the progressive logging of excavated material.
    • Learn how to apply the restore points, while working with excavations.
  • In this module, you will learn about free mode excavations in 3D-Dig, including limit, selective, and multiple excavations.

    • Excavate to a surface and use excavation limit surfaces.
    • See how to achieve selective excavation for waste and non-waste materials.
    • Work with multiple excavation templates and switch between excavation templates.
    • Learn how to include surface features in the shapes of your inner excavation polygons.
  • In this module, an excavation of a box cut will be performed, accompanied by a detailed step-by-step explanation.

    • Execute the initial setup for an excavation of the box-cut for a pit.
    • Make preparations for the creation of a ramp, and make acquaintance with the concept of saving to an inner surface.
    • Create a corridor for the previously-planned ramp.
    • Execute excavation of the ramp.
    • Save the box cut model as an inner surface, and see the procedure of cropping down the surface.
    • Learn how to use the current plane function.
  • The final module is an exam where you can test your knowledge of the concepts introduced in this course. Pass this exam with a 70% or better to receive your completion certificate.
